Are there any questions?

At Jalopnik, we are always looking for fun and creative ways to get from A to B. Naturally, this led us to test an electric bike. And that means right now we have a VanMoof S3 e-bike sitting here in the office waiting to be ridden. So what do you want to know about this?

I picked up the bike from the store in Brooklyn and got my first taste of e-bike freedom across the bridge and to our office in midtown Manhattan. There, the bike was greeted with enthusiasm by the other New York-based Jalops, all eager to learn more about all its buzzes, zips, pings and bangs. He makes a lot of noise.

Now that we’ve got our hands on it, we’re going to put it through its paces here in New York to see what it’s like to live with an e-bike for a week. That means I’ll be commuting to the office with it, riding it to meet friends, and using it for all the trips I need to make around town. There’s also an important question to answer: Will this fit in my shoebox-sized apartment?

If you’re unfamiliar with VanMoof, they’re a Dutch e-bike manufacturer that currently offers two models. This S3 we have has 28” wheels and a frame that the brand says is suitable for anyone over 5’8”. The company also has the X3which has 24-inch wheels and a smaller frame for smaller riders.

Both bikes have the same 504 Wh battery, a top speed of 20 mph and a claimed range of 37 to 93 milesdepending on the desired electric assistance.

On board, there is an automatic gearbox, which may take some getting used to, and an electric bell which has already made me jump. The list price of the VanMoof S3 is $2,448, but after taxes and shipping, that’s up to $2,731 here in New York. And that’s a lot for a bike, no matter how much it helps you pedal.

But what would you like to a three thousand dollar bike? Head over to the comments section and let us know anything you want to know about the VanMoof S3. I have a week to try to find an answer to all your questions.
