CEBU CITY, Philippines – The ARQ boxing stable recently moved to their new boxing gym at Barangay Tigbao in Talamban, Cebu City.

The ARQ boxing stable, which recently billed itself as the newest boxing outfit, was once based in a modest gym inside the village of Exoville in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City.

The boxing team and promotions owned by Cebuano sportsman Jason Arquisola have decided to build a new boxing hall to accommodate their growing team.

So earlier this month they were finally moved to a more spacious and better equipped gym.

“Mas nindot is a gym in a backpack. Naa na gyud real ring na ilang gipractisan. Kung unsa ang giduwaan nila sa mga combat nila, mao na gbutang namo diha his gym, ”said ARQ sports director Chelito Caro.

(The gym they transferred to is better. They have a real ring to train on. If what they’ve played on in their fights, that’s what we put in our gym.)

Caro said that compared to their old gym, Tigbao’s was complete with all the equipment needed to provide their boxers with top notch training.

“Complete the installation of the ug equipment. Naa ta for training ug boxing ring. Hopefully after his fight card in December, my blessing in the NATO gym, before Christmas, ”Caro said.

(Our equipment and facilities are full. We have a place for training and a boxing ring. Hopefully after the fight card in December we have the blessing of our gym before Christmas.)

ARQ Sports’ boxing promotions have been one of the most active Cebu-based outfits in promoting fight cards.

In the span of five months, the boxing squad has already staged two fight cards as part of their “Kumbati” boxing series featuring their rising stars in April Jay Abne and Johnpaul Gabunilas, among others.

Both unbeaten, Abne already marks his class in the flyweight division by winning the silver OPBF flyweight title on October 30 against Ben Ligas by split decision.

Gabunilas, who was supposed to feature in the same fight card with Abne, has been sidelined with a minor injury. However, he is expected to return for the December 20 “Kumbati Tres”, which is tentatively scheduled to be held at Alta Vista Gymnasium in Barangay Pardo, Cebu City.
